It’s very common, natural, and foolish for me to allow my ego-mind to so often pine for things (e.g. signs of warmth, kindness and appreciation from others) that I think I do not have ‘enough’ of and think I need. Often I have thoughts of victimhood. Sometimes my consciousness dwells on and worries about which black numbers are on white pieces of paper. Often I forget that things happen in the world and in my mind/heart (and that of others) for billions of valid reasons (karma). Often I think that the way the Cosmic Dance is happening is unsatisfactory. Thus I am often my own worst enemy and thereby start losing the crucial ‘battle within.’
Fortunately, sometimes the wise spiritual warrior within me chooses to use the delightful tool of laughter to qwell this foolishness. Then it’s much easier to choose to practice gratefulness for the wonderful privilege of being a part of (or at one with) this miraculous Cosmic Dance . . . that is infused with and fueled by Divine Grace. I then practice much more: happiness, joy, appreciation, acceptance, tolerance, equanimity, kindness, compassion and mudita (joy for the happiness and good fortune of others). I thereby start winning the crucial ‘battle within.’
I would do myself (and others) a favor to lighten up more often and more often choose to practice the tool of laughter at my foolishness (and that of others). Today I will often choose to remember this wisdom . . . and strive on in this wonderful/terrible ‘battle within!’
(Other days I will choose to wield other effective weapons in the ‘battle within’: dance, tai chi and mindfulness yoga.)
I agree with you in most of what you say, we should practice gratefulness to the *Dispenser* of the Divine Graces, to thank for the grace of being in this Universe, here and now. There is a plan for us, each one of us. I don't believe in accidentes.
We also should practice laughter, a lot of it, and maybe laugh at ourselves, lighten up. But I desagree with you in that you feel foolish for wanting, pine, (I learned this word today) signs of warmth, kindness, love, etc. We need to feel those things, we were created in that way.
I also wish the same things and I don't feel foolish for that, although I feel foolish for many other things, among then for expresing my feelings here.
